Birth
John Robert Linder was the second child of William Linder and Charlotte Randall. From the wee Bible of his sister-in-law, Emily Walker Linder, John was born on May 13, 1865 and he was also known as Jack. The marriage of his daughter Grace records that he was born in Elmira, which is to be expected. The Census of 1871 lists John at age 5 living with the family in Elmira. In 1881 John is still at home and working as a Farm Labourer, his father having died earlier in the year.Marriage
John Linder and Annie Wallace were wed in Waterloo on August 20, 1890. The 1891 registry of Ontario Marriages records the marriage, #011-708:
Name: John R Linder Age: 25 Residence: Elmira Born: Elmira B[achelor] Occ: Laborer Parents: William & Charlotte Linder Relig: Presbyterian Bride: Annie Wallace Age: 19 Residence: Doon Born: Brussels S[pinster] Parents: Robert & Joan Wallace Relig: Presbyterian Witness: John Uttley, Waterloo Catherine Uttley, " Date: 20th August 1890 Place: Waterloo By: Rev A E Mitchell L[icense]
- How interesting that John R and Catherine Uttley were witnesses to this marriage.
John lived in Galt, Ontario when on December 24, 1894, he and Anna Uttley witnessed the marriage of Mary Jane Uttley and Henry Allen Parr in Doon Ontario.
The Census in the spring of 1891 records John at age 26 employed as a Labourer with his wife Annie, age 19. In addition a son Alex, age 1 year, is listed but there is no record of this boy in the family Bible or the Ontario Birth/Death indexes. The 1901 Census reports John and Annie W. in Elmira, with four children: Willie, Ephraim, Edward and Levina B.
